2019 Casteñada White

2019 Casteñada White

The 2019 Casteñada White is one of the three wines we make for the Casteñada series, made in homage to our Adobe home's history in Sonoma. These wines showcase different aromas and flavors than our traditional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay offerings. This wine is a blend of four Rhone white varieties - Marsanne, Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, and Viognier. In a long, cool growing season as we saw in 2019, these grapes got to hang on the vine longer than usual resulting in beautiful depth and balance. Delicate floral notes pair with some apricot and peach to deliver a wonderful wine for a warm fall day.

More Information
The 2019 vintage made a memorable entrance, with much-needed rainfall, allowing the earth to recover and heal from previous dry years. The vines awoke from their winter slumber and transitioned into a cool spring, giving us the chance to enjoy a mild and uneventful budding season. As fruit matured, the temperate conditions allowed the flowering to set at an even pace as we continued to experience cool temperatures throughout the season. The grapes had a nice, slow development into veraison, intensifying flavors and giving us plenty of nuance to work with in the cellar. Our winemaking team perfectly captured the distinct characteristics of the 2019 vintage, allowing each of our estate vineyards to express each of their unique traits in the bottle. Because of the complexity and high yields of this vintage, we are excited for the tremendous quality and age-ability that it promises. While the 2018 and 2019 vintages had similar bounties and quality, the growing seasons couldn’t have been more different—the true blessing and mystique of Mother Nature.
