2018 Gap's Crown Vineyard Pinot Noir

2018 Gap's Crown Vineyard Pinot Noir

Perched on the western face of Sonoma Mountain, this estate property gets maximum exposure to the Petaluma Gap’s whipping winds and fog, making Gap’s Crown the coldest property in our portfolio of vineyards. In this pinot noir haven, the fruit is subjected to the Pacific Ocean’s bold marine layer and builds strength while basking in the warm but short afternoons. With vines specifically planted to withstand the morning fog and powerful winds, our Gap’s Crown Pinot is rich and boisterous. One of our best candidates for long-term cellaring, this pinot is full of savory notes that converge into mouthwatering black cherry, Earl Grey tea, and gingerbread. We are infatuated.

More Information
2018 was one of those magical years. With a mild spring, the early growing season plodded along at a relatively normal pace. Once the berries set, we knew we had a healthy and full crop. So full, in fact, we did a number of fruit-thinning passes to reduce load on the vines. Even with this, we were happy to see an above-average harvest with superb quality. We started picking in earnest after Labor Day, with cool, fall weather that allowed us to transfer the grapes in a calm and measured pace. All in all, 2018 will go down as a year to remember, with wines of true depth and power.
