2017 Sonoma Valley Casteñada Rosé

2017 Casteñada Rosé is brimming with bright, sweet strawberries and lemon zest.  The Syrah and Grenache give this wine a delicate backbone of tannin while the aromatics of Marsanne, Grenache Blanc, and Viognier elevate this wine to etherial status.  By using the French saignée method, this Rosé is bright, layered, and mouthwateringly delicious - perfect for when the sun comes out!

The next vintage of this wine will be released in Spring 2019.

2017 was a vintage to remember. In the winter months we saw record rainfall and after years of drought, dams filled up and overflowed throughout California. However, the rain was a welcomed sight as it allowed our soils to become thoroughly saturated and cleaned out salts that built up during the dry periods. Temperatures were a bit cooler as we went through flowering and resulted in a pretty good "set". The year was a bit more "normal", until we had a ripple of heat waves at the end of August into early September. With spikes above 100 F, we made the decision to harvest our Pinot Noir prior to the heat and hydrate the plants to further their development. While compressed into smaller picking windows, the grapes looked great coming into the winery and we had nice ferments to follow. Thankfully, the 2017 fruit was in barrel by the time the firestorm erupted in the wine country. Our vineyards were threatened by two fires but ultimately were saved by the brave and exhausting work of the first responders. We are forever grateful for those that put themselves in harm’s way to help us save our livelihood and we will surely never forget the pain and devastation caused by these fires. The 2017 vintage is dedicated to the heroes who saved our little slice of heaven we call home and in memory of those who were lost.
